3rd GRADE
2009 - 2010 School Year
Grandparent's Day
The third graders enjoyed many
activities throughout the day with their grandparents.
They read books, had butterfly cookies, and shared butterfly
poems that they had written. They also added fractions
in Math and made a delicious punch to go with their cookies.

Since the 3rd grade students are learning about butterflies
and life cycles in science and reading, they made butterfly
magnets of themselves to give to their mothers for Mother's
Day!

EHOVE students came in to help teach the third grade
boys about economics. They showed the boys how to perform a
service.

The students used gumdrops and toothpicks to make their own
3-dimensional shapes in math class!

- The 3rd graders had a fun time celebrating St. Patrick's
Day! In math they worked with measuring and baking to make
fun, green holiday treats and in reading they created green
shaving cream to practice writing their spelling words. In
social studies, they reviewed for a test by having
a scavenger hunt to find hidden pots of gold!

In Social Studies, 3rd graders have been
learning about cultures around the world, including cultural
celebrations and special dances.
8th grader Emily Hansen performed Irish dancing for the
3rd graders. Emily attends Burke School of Irish
Dance. Emily has been dancing for six years. She
is an open prizewinner level dancer. Thank you, Emily,
for sharing your talents with the 3rd graders!

In writing, our 3rd graders wrote to pen pals in
Northeastern China. The Chinese students' teacher, Megan
Borgelt, a Huron native, came into our class to teach the
students how to use chopsticks and write some Chinese
characters.

Third grade students made edible landforms. Each treat
represented a landform or fault line in the earth.

Third grade students are working on
edible maps and science experiments.

Please take time to read over
the 3rd grade
