volume, tested density of objects and tried to create a
neutrally buoyant object.

Fifth grade students are
getting ready to go shopping again, this time, looking for
sale prices! They have been converting percents to decimals
and fractions!

Persuasive Letter Activity

Math

Mrs. Lilje’s
fifth grade math classes are learning about the conversion
of decimals and percentages by shopping! We are SANTA’S
SHOPPERS! Students used many different math skills! First
they cut out ads from the newspapers and compared prices.
Next they used their estimating skills to see if they had
enough money to purchase their items, keeping in mind that
they would have tax! Finally, they added up their
purchases, figured out the tax and total purchase amount,
and worked with a partner with “money,” practicing how to
make change by counting on! After Christmas, they will be
BARGAIN HUNTERS, leaning how to figure out marked down
prices!

Today, Mrs. Lilje's
5th grade math students were working on
checkbook math! Today was the first day they balanced their
checkbooks, and if they had enough money, they were able to
shop at the Rewards Shop!
