The Erie
County Land Use Debate was held at Firelands College on
December 6. This yearly program is sponsored by the
Erie-Huron-Ottawa Educational Service Center and Erie County
Metroparks. Kalahari Resort provided prizes for the event,
including a waterpark pass for each student presenting at
the debate.
In this
project, student groups become "developers" of a section of
Erie County land. During the process, students learned about
zoning, construction costs, taxes, environmental issues and
the pros and cons of increased development in our area.
Three
groups of Janet Feld's grade 8 students presented their
projects at Firelands. Camp Infinity were created by Rachel
Wallace, Courtney Kuhl, Emma Stevens, Tia Coble, Nora
Cuthbertson, and Rachel Kiley; H2O presented by Elise
Gastier, Susan Knight, Michelle Johnson, Nicole Codeluppi,
Morgan Price, and Shantel Wolfe and Wind Farms of Northern
Ohio were presented by Clayton Bowers, Jon Nickoloff, Evan
Smith, Corey Mancusco, Alex Spriggs, and Luke Pierce. Ben
Spacek and Kelsey O'Flaherty served as township trustees for
the event.
