5-9-08
Boy's Tennis:
The varsity tennis team went down 5-0 against Oak Harbor.  Playing singles for the Chargers were Tyler Stewart, Nate Seamans and Lucas Neumeyer.  The doubles teams seeing action were Ian Bergstrom-Jamie Wilson and Scott McGuckin-Logan Francisco.  The team travels to Baywinds Athletic Club today to begin play in the SBC tournament.  Winning for the JV team were Dan Plumb at singles and the doubles teams of Cody Noon-Andrew Sapp and Kyle McDonald-David Bender.  Nice job to both squads and keep up the hard work!

Varsity Baseball:
The varsity baseball team lost to Perkins 6-0.  Mat Koelsch and Cory Schmidt collected the team's only 2 hits.  The team plays St. Paul at home today.

Varsity Softball:
Perkins beat the Lady Chargers last night 12-5.  Playing from behind from the 2nd inning on, the Chargers continued to battle, with the final score not a true indicator of how close the game was.  Some costly errors, both mental and physical, allowed the Pirates some breathing room.   Katelyn Fischer pitched, giving up 5 earned runs.  She also had one of the Chargers 8 hits.  Ashley Elber, Logan Jessee, Sam Buschur, Betsy Keener, and Jackie McIlrath each had one hit.   Emily Stewart had a single and a smashing home run.    Next game is today versus St. Paul.

Varsity Baseball:
Mat Kolesch had 3 hits and 3 RBI's and Kales Divers was 2 for 2 with 4 RBI's as the varsity baseball team beat Huron 9-5.  Kevin Knight and Tyler Koch had 2 hits each, with Knight hitting a double and Koch driving in 2 runs.  Taylor Emody, Stefan Taylor, and  Corby Starkey each had 1 hit.  Koch pitched 5 strong innings to pick up the win.  He gave up just 4 hits and 0 earned runs while striking out 3.  Ryan Reber pitched the final 2 innings, striking out 2.  The Chargers now stand at 10-6 overall and 8-2 in the SBC.  The team takes on 1st place Perkins today at Perkins.

JV Baseball:
Here are the results of last nights JV baseball game.  Edison defeated the visiting Huron Tigers 12 to 11.  The Chargers scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win.   Alan Rock picked up the win on the mound and drove in the winning run with a two out base hit.  Mike Kumpula lead the Chargers with three hits, Nate Wilhelm and Alan Rock added two hits apiece.  Edison will host Perkins tonight.

Varsity Softball:
The Softball Team lost to Huron 6-0.  Katelyn Fischer gave 10 hits and walked 3.  The Charger defense committed 3 errors.   Katelyn, Emily Stewart, and Ali Jesberger had the Chargers only hits.   Next game is today at Perkins.

JV Softball:
The JV softball team lost two tough matches this week to Port Clinton and Huron.  In a 6-4 loss to Port Clinton, Danielle Wilhelm was the losing pitcher giving up 4 hits and striking out 6.  Danielle Wilhelm and Cassie Camella had the only 2 hits for Edison.  In a 7-2 loss to Huron, Danielle Wilhelm was the losing pitcher giving up 7 hits and striking out 8.  Leading hitters were Lindsey Fox and Rachael Cummings with two hits each.  Maddi Gornek, Brittany Dillender, Cassie Camella, and Danielle Wilhelm all contributed with a hit a piece.  The team record is now 6-7 and 3-5 in the SBC.

Boy's Tennis:
The boys’ tennis team lost to Port Clinton 5-0.  The team travels to Perkins tonight to take on the Pirates at 4:00.  The team continues to play hard as they prepare for the SBC tournament on Friday.  The JV tennis team went 3-2 against Port Clinton.  Winning at doubles were the teams of Cody Noon/Logan Francisco, Jeremy Moss/Andrew Sapp and Sam Bores/Adam Osterling.  Nice job and keep up the hard work.

Varsity Baseball:
The varsity baseball team improved to 9-6 and 7-2 in the SBC by beating Port Clinton 12-3.  Chris Roberts had a double, a triple, and 4 RBI's to lead the offense.  Mat Kolesch, Taylor Emody, and Kale Divers each had a double and 2 hits.  Stefan Taylor had 2 hits.  Mike Laughlin and Tyler Koch had 1 hit each.  Emody drove in 3 runs, while Divers and Koch each drove in 2 runs.  Koelsch picked up the win, pitching the first 4 innings and striking out 5.  Ryan Reber pitched the final 3 innings to pick up the save.  The team plays at Huron today.

JV Baseball:
The Edison JV baseball team traveled to Port Clinton and defeated the Redskins 5 to 0.  Sam Deehr got the win pitching a complete game shutout.  The Chargers played very well defensively to earn their first shutout of the year.   The JV baseball team will host Huron tonight.

Varsity Softball:
The Varsity Softball Team lost to Port Clinton Monday night 10-3.  Katelyn Fischer pitched a 7 hitter, walked 3, and struck out 5.   The final 3 runs were the only earned runs allowed.  Ashley Elber was 2 for three.  Katelyn and Sam Buschur each had a hit.  Next game is today at Huron.

Girl's Track:
The girls’ track team competed at the Margaretta Invitational on Saturday, and came up against their toughest competition of the year.  The Chargers tied with Smithville for 2nd place while losing to Seneca East.  The girls had some outstanding performances beginning with Cami Shine taking 1st in the long jump, and 3rd in the 100 hurdles followed by Emily Demuth who placed 5th.  The girls 4x200 took 1st with the team of Sophia Johnson, Nicole Swartz, Casey Flannery, and Stephanie Campana.  Alyssa Robinson had a stand-out performance earning her 1st in the 400 with her best time of 62.7 just edging out Casey Flannery who took 2nd with a 62.9.  Sophia Johnson placed 3rd in the 200, and Sarah Rospert placed 2nd in the 2 mile with an outstanding time of 11:56.  Great job ladies.

Boy's Tennis:
The boys’ tennis team on Wednesday played well but lost to Clyde 4-1.  Winning for the Chargers at no. 1 singles was Tyler Stewart 7-5, 6-4.  For the JV team against Clyde, the doubles teams of Adam Osterlins/Sam Bores and Russ Bobel/Jake Kiley pulled off the win in two sets a piece.  On Thursday, the varsity team lost a close one to Huron 3-2.  Winning at no. 1 singles was Tyler Stewart 6-2, 6-3 and Nate Seamans at no. 2 singles 6-4, 7-6.  The JV team went 4-1 against Huron.  Getting wins for the JV team were the doubles teams of Sam Bores/Adam Osterling, Andrew Sapp/Jeremy Moss, Russ Bobel/Jake Kiley, and Kyle McDonald/David Bender.

Varsity Baseball:
The varsity baseball team lost to Western Reserve 11-1.  Corby Starkey smashed 2 doubles, Bryan Roberts had 1 double, and Kevin Knight had a single.  Kale Divers and Ryan Reber pitched for the Chargers.  The team plays at Huron today.

JV Baseball:
Edison traveled to Western Reserve and defeated the Riders 13 to 3.  Bobby Stone lead the Chargers with 3 hits.  Alan Rock chipped in with a double.  Evan Hagelberger pitched a complete game for the win.  The JV's play Huron at home Friday.

Varsity Softball:
The varsity softball team improved to 5-8 with a 5 inning 11-0 victory over Western Reserve.  Katelyn Fischer notched the win.  She walked 3, struck out 5 and gave a lone single in the 5th.  She also led the offense with 2 hits, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.  Ashley Elber had an RBI double.  Elyse Turton, Emily Stewart, Logan Jessee, Betsy Keener, Taylor Stoll, Ali Jesberger and Jackie McIlrath each singled.  The next game is Friday at Huron.

Varsity Baseball:

The varsity baseball team beat Clyde 10-7 to improve to 8-5 overall and 6-2 in the SBC.  Stefan Taylor had 3 hits.  Corby Starkey and Taylor Emody each had 2 hits.  Kevin Knight, Tyler Koch, Kale Divers, Ryan Neuberger, and Chris Roberts had 1 hit each.  Koch hit a 2 run home run, Starkey had a triple, and Knight, Divers, and Neuberger each had a double.  Mat Koelsch got the win and Tyler Koch picked up the save.  Koelsch struck out 7 in 4 innings of work, and Koch struck out 6 over the final 3 innings.  The team plays at home today against Western Reserve.

JV Baseball:
The JV Baseball team was defeated by the Clyde Fliers last night 13 to 3.  Bob Deehr led the Chargers with a double.  The JV's travel to Western Reserve today for a make up game. 

Varsity Softball:
The varsity softball team lost to Clyde 10-0.  The Chargers went hitless.  Katelyn Fischer gave up 3 earned runs while striking out 8.  The Chargers host Western Reserve today.

JV Softball:
The JV softball team lost to Clyde Wednesday 11-2.  Megan Thompson was the losing pitcher giving up 7 hits, 10 walks, and striking out 4.  Leading hitters were Sam Seiling and Maddi Gornek with two hits each.  Lindsey Fox also contributed with 1 hit.  The team record is now 6-5 and 3-3 in the SBC.

The boys’ tennis team played strong last night but went down 0-5 against St. Mary’s.  Playing at singles were Tyler Stewart, Nate Seamans and Scott McGuckin.  For the doubles teams seeing action were Ian Bergstrom/Jamie Wilson and Lucas Neumeyer/Logan Francisco.  The team travels to Clyde today to take on the Flyers.

Varsity Softball:

While the offense was blasting the ball all over the field with 17 runs on 12 hits, Katelyn Fischer was pounding the strike zone.  Katelyn struck out 7 in route to her first no hitter for the Chargers.  Elyse Turton, Ashley Elber and Katelyn each had a double and single.  Emily Stewart had 2 singles.  Ali Jesberger, Betsy Keener and Austin Cech singled while Taylor Stoll had a triple.  The final score was 17-1 over St. Mary’s.  The Lady Chargers play at Clyde on Wednesday.

Varsity Baseball:
The varsity baseball team improved to 7-5 and 5-2 in the SBC by beating St. Mary's 3-1.  Cory Schmidt was outstanding on the mound, giving up just 6 hits and 1 run while striking out 8.  Ryan Neuberger hit a 2 run single in the top of the 7th inning to give the team the lead.  Corby Starkey had 2 hits, and Mat Koelsch, Taylor Emody, Stefan Taylor, Kevin Knight, and Kale Divers had 1 hit each.  The team travels to Clyde on Wednesday.

JV Softball:
The JV softball team beat Sycamore Mohawk Monday 13-11.  Danielle Wilhelm was the winning pitcher giving up 9 hits and striking out 11.  Leading hitters were Maddi Gornek with 2 singles and a double and Ali Soviak with 3 singles.  Lindsey Fox, Sam Seiling, and Rachael Cummings also contributed wth 2 hits each.  The team record is now 6-4 and 3-2 in the SBC.

Girl's Track: HURON INVITE CHAMPIONS!!!
The Girls Track Team brought home their second straight Invitational Championship Saturday when they won the Huron Invitational. The Girls had an outstanding day beginning with a first place in the long Jump by Cami Shine with 16’2” leap on her last jump.  The 4x200 easily won with the team of Sophia Johnson, Casey Flannery, Nicole Swartz, and Stephanie Campana.  Casey Flannery took 1st in the 400 followed by Alyssa Robinson taking 4th.  Abbi Plunkett Placed 3rd in the mile with a time of 5:47.  Sarah Rospert placed 1st in the 2 mile with her best time of 12:00.  Sophia Johnson won the 200 with her best time of 27.3.  The 4x100 took first with the team of Sophia Johnson, Chelsea Frankboner, Nicole Swartz, and Stephanie Campana.  The 4x400 won with the team of Alyssa Robinson, Nicole Swartz, Zoe Gastier and Casey Flannery.  Great Job Ladies.

Boy's Track:
The boys track team finished 5th in the 8 team Huron Invite on Saturday.  Top finishers for the Chargers were Brady Gelvin who took 1st in the long jump with a personal record of 20’11”.  Brady also came in 2nd in the 100.   Tim Majoy was 1st in the 3200 with a PR of 10:20.  Jon Wolshuck took 3rd in the disucs; Steve Salmons 4th in the 1600; Louie Arreche 4th in the high jump; and the 4x800 relay of Tim Majoy, Brandon Tomson, Oggie Moss and Steve Salmons finished 4th.  Good job guys!
 

Varsity Baseball:
On Friday, the varsity baseball team beat Margaretta 8-3. Ryan Neuberger and Taylor Emody had 2 hits each. Kale Divers had a double, and Kevin Knight and Stefan Taylor had 1 hit each. Emody and Tyler Koch both had 2 RBI's. Koch got the win on the mound, combining with Ryan Reber to give up just 7 hits while striking out 5. The team plays at St. Mary's today.

Varsity Softball:
The varsity softball team lost to Oak Harbor Wednesday by a 5-2 score.  Katelyn Fischer yielded 5 runs on 4 hits and 5 walks.  Two errors in Oak Harbor’s 4 run 4th inning proved to be very costly.  Ashley Elber had 2 hits.  Emily Stewart and Sam Buschur each had a hit.  The Chargers play Margaretta on Friday at home.

JV Softball:
 
The JV softball team lost to Oak Harbor 11-1.  Danielle Wilhelm was the losing pitcher giving up 6 hits, 5 walks and striking out 4.  Ali Soviak and Danielle Wilhelm had the only 2 hits of the game.  The team record is now 5-4 overall and 3-2 in the SBC.

Varsity Baseball:
The varsity baseball team lost to Oak Harbor 6-2. Cory Schmidt pitched well, giving up just 6 hits and 2 earned runs in 5 1/3 innings. Sam Deehr also pitched, giving up no runs and striking out 1. Taylor Emody had a double and a RBI, while Mat Koelsch, Kale Divers, and Stefan Taylor had 1 hit each. Divers also had an RBI. The team plays Margaretta on Friday.

JV Baseball:
Edison defeated the Oak Harbor Rockets 18 to 17 last night.  The Chargers banged out 15 hits lead by Nate Wilhelm with three.  Brandon Gurnack, Evan Hagelberger, Ryan Reber, and Alan Rock each chipped in with a pair.  Bob Deehr picked up the win in relief.  The Charger JV team travels to Margaretta on Friday.

Boy's Tennis:
The boys’ varsity tennis team continues to improve match after match but suffered a set back last night in Oak Harbor losing 0-5.  Last night’s line-up included the singles play of Tyler Stewart, Nate Seamans and Lucas Neumeyer while the doubles teams were made up of Jamie Wilson/Ian Bergstrom and Logan Francisco/Scott McGuckin.  The varsity players will participate in the PC Doubles Tournament on Friday night and begin the second half of the season next week.  The JV tennis team went 3-3 last night in Oak Harbor.  Winning in the doubles play were the teams of Adam Osterling/David Bender and Andrea Sapp/Jeremy Moss.  The singles match of the night was won by freshman Sam Bores 6-4.

Girl's Track:
The girls’ track team defeated Margaretta last night 82 to 51.  The 4x800 team of Sarah Rospert, Sarah Wallace, Abbi Plunkett, and Cassandra Grant placed 1st with their best time of 11:00.  Stephanie Campana took 1st it the 100.  Cami Shine took 1st in the 100 hurdles, and 1st in the long jump.  Casey Flannery placed 1st in the 400 with a time of 61.6 and Alyssa Robinson took 2nd.  Remi Hoffman won the 2 mile with her best time of 12:52.  The 4x100 team of Sophia Johnson, Chelsea Frankboner, Nicole Swartz, and Stephanie Campana placed first with a time of 52.1.  The 4x200 also won with the team of Sophia Johnson, Casey Flannery, Nicole Swartz, and Stephanie Campana.  The 4x400 ended the night with win thanks to the team of Alyssa Robinson, Carmen Tinnel, Zoe Gastier, and Casey Flannery.  Great job ladies—now get ready for the Huron Invitational on Saturday.

Boy's Track:
The boys’ track team beat Margaretta last night 95-41.  The Chargers took 1st place in 13 out of 17 events.  Evan Lee and Ryan Tiura took 1-2 in both hurdle events.  Tim Majoy, Steve Salmons, and Oggie Moss took 1-2-3 in the 1600 while Kyle Cory, Mike Skiver and Jon Wolshuck took 1-2-3 in the shot put.  Tim Majoy also won the 800.  Jim Beres won the 100 and the 200.  Jake Parkinson won the long jump, Bryan Nemire won the 3200 while Cory Vanderbaan took 2nd.  Jon Wolshuck won the discus.  Way to go guys.

Boy's Tennis:
The varsity boys’ tennis team fell to Perkins last night by a 5-0 margin, but are back in action tonight against Oak Harbor.  For the JV team the doubles teams of Jeremy Moss/Sam Bores, Adam Osterling/Andrew Sapp and Kyle McDonald/David Bender all got the win for the Chargers against Perkins.  The JV team is doing a great job overall and continues to work hard at every match.  The JV team also travels to work hard at every match.  The JV team also travels to Oak Harbor tonight to take on the Rockets.

Varsity Baseball:

The varsity baseball team improved to 3-1 in the SBC by beating Perkins 6-3.  Mat Koelsch pitched an outstanding game, going all 7 innings and allowing just 4 hits and 1 earned run.  Koelsch struck out 6 batters, and also led the offense by going 2 for 3 with a double and 3 runs scored.  Taylor Emody went 2 for 2 with 3 RBI's, including a 2 run home run in the bottom of the first inning.  Corby Starkey added 2 hits and a RBI. Tyler Koch had a single and 2 RBI's.  The team travels to Oak Harbor on Wednesday.

JV Baseball:
The Edison JV baseball team lost to Perkins last night 17 to 7.   Brandon Gurnak and Mike Kumpula had two hits apiece.  The Charger JVs return to action Wednesday at home against Oak Harbor.

Varsity Softball:
The varsity softball lost to Perkins Monday night.  Katelyn Fischer gave up 4 earned runs on 6 walks and 7 hits.  Emily Stewart, Logan Jessee and Austin Cech each had a single for the Chargers.  Next game is Wednesday, at Oak Harbor.

JV Softball:
The JV softball team beat Perkins 9-7.  Danielle Wilhelm was the winning pitcher giving up 5 hits and striking out 11.  Leading hitters were Danielle Wilhelm and Ali Soviak with 3 hits each.  Maddi Gornek and Sam Seiling also contributed with 2 hits each.

Girl's Track: EDISON INVITE CHAMPIONS!!!
The girls track team won the Edison Invitational on Saturday.  The girls scored 103 points placing them ahead of second place Lexington and the 10 remaining teams.  Cami Shine won the long jump with a leap of 16’4 ½” and placed 3rd in the 100 hurdles with her best time of 16.9.  Stephanie Campana placed 4th in the 100.  The 4x200 relay ran their best time of 1:49.5 placing 1st with the team of Sophia Johnson, Chelsea Frankboner, Nicole Swartz, and Stephanie Campana.  Casey Flannery placed second in the 400 with an outstanding time of 61.8.  Sarah Rospert took 3rd in the 2 mile and Remi Hoffman placed 6th.  The 4x100 relay ran their best time of 51.8 finishing 1st with the team of Sophia Johnson, Chelsea Frankboner, Nicole Swartz, and Stephanie Campana.  The 4x400 ended the day in first place with the team of Casey Flannery, Nicole Swartz, Zoe Gastier, and Carman Tinnel. Outstanding performance ladies!

Boy's Track:
The boys track team finished 5th in the 12 team Edison Invite on Saturday.  Top finishers for the Chargers were the 4x100 relay of Alias Freeman, Jim Beres, Lucas Koelsch and Brady Gelvin who finished 1st with a season PR of 44.6.  Brady Gelvin was also 2nd in the long jump and the 100 meters.  Jon Wolshuck was 4th in the discus and Weston Strayer was 3rd in the 800.  Congratulations guys on a great day.  The coaches would like to thank all of the faculty, staff, parents and students who helped make Saturday’s meet a success.

Varsity Baseball:
The varsity baseball team improved to 4-4 by beating Port Clinton 16-3 and Monroeville 18-6 on Friday and Saturday.  Against the Redskins, Cory Schmidt picked up the win, pitching all 6 innings and allowing just 6 hits and striking out 5.  Taylor Emody led a 17 hit attack by going 3 for 4 with a 2 run home run, and grand slam, and 7 RBI's.  Stefan Taylor also had 3 hits, including a triple.  Mat Koelsch collected 3 hits and had 2 RBI's.  Kevin Knight and Tyler Koch had 2 hits each.

On Saturday, freshman Sam Deehr picked up his first varsity win.  Deehr pitched 4 innings and gave just 4 hits.  RJ Reising had a big day at the plate, belting 2 home runs and collecting 5 RBI's.  Stefan Taylor and Mat Koelsch each hit solo home runs.  Taylor Emody had 3 hits, including a double, and had 3 RBI's.  Kale Divers and Kevin Knight each had 2 hits, with Knight and Chris Roberts each hitting doubles.  The team plays a big SBC game today at home against league leading Perkins.

Varsity Softball:
The varsity softball team upped their record to 3-4 with an 8-3 victory on Friday over Port Clinton and a 23-13 6th inning win over Monroeville on Saturday.  Katelyn Fischer was the winning pitcher in both contests.  She went the distance against Port Clinton and she pitched 4 scoreless innings against Monroeville.  On Friday, Ashley Elber went 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored.  Emily Stewart, Logan Jessee and Betsy Keener each had RBI singles.  Saturday, Austin Cech was 4 for 5 with 2 doubles.  Elyse Turton, Sam Buschur, Betsy Keener, Lisa Houghtlen and Megan Thompson each had 1 hit.  Emily Stewart and Katelyn Fischer each went 2 for 3.  Logan Jessee hit a double and homerun.  Ashley Elber led off the game with a homerun and followed with a grand slam in the 3rd.  The varsity Lady Chargers hosts Perkins today.

JV Baseball:
The Edison JV baseball team beat Port Clinton 20 to 11 Friday night.  The Chargers pounded out 14 hits lead by Ryan Reber with five hits and Bob Deehr with three.  Evan Hagelberger, Nate Wilhelm, and Bob Stone had two hits each.    Bob Deehr picked up the win in relief. 

JV Softball:
The JV softball team beat Port Clinton on Friday 10-3.  Danielle Wilhelm was the winning pitcher giving up 4 hits and striking out 10.  Caitlyn Roberts led the hitting attack with 3 singles while Maddi Gorneck belted out a grand slam!  Danielle Wilhelm, Ali Soviak, Sam Seiling and Rachael Cummings had one hit a piece.  Record is now 4-3 and 2-1 in the SBC.

Varsity Wrestling:
Congratulations Craig Ritz who tried out for the wrestling AAU junior Olympics – A team.  He placed 1st against many state participants.  He will wrestle this summer for TEAM Ohio this summer the last week in July in Detroit, for the Junior Olympics.  Good luck Craig!

Recently the Sandusky Bay Conference released its 2007-08 Winter Sports All-Academic Teams.  Congratulations to Edison basketball players Mat Koelsch, Dean Reutter, Jacob Whitehouse and Zach Yovanov for making the All-Academic Team for the winter season.

Varsity Baseball:

Despite pounding out 14 hits, the varsity baseball team fell to Wellington 9-6.  Tyler Koch had 3 hits, including a double.  Kevin Knight was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles, while Kale Divers and Ryan Neuberger had 2 hits each.  Stefan Taylor led off the game with his first home run of the season, Taylor Emody hit a double, while Mat Koelsch, Corby Starkey, and Ryan Reber had 1 hit each.  The team travels to Port Clinton for a big SBC game today.

JV Baseball:
The Edison JV baseball team lost a tough game at Clyde last night 14 to 8.  Bob Deehr led the Chargers with three hits.  Nate Wilhelm and Alan Rock chipped in with two hits each.

The boys’ tennis team beat Huron last night 3-2.  Winning for the Chargers were singles players Tyler Stewart and Nate Seamans.  On the doubles side, the team of Ian Bergstrom and Logan Francisco got the win at no. 2 doubles.  Both the varsity and JV teams travel to Port Clinton today to take on the top ranked Redskins.  The Chargers are 1-1 in the SBC.

Varsity Softball:
The varsity softball team beat Huron last night 6-5.  The win evens their SBC record at 1-1.  Katelyn Fischer scattered 6 hits and struck out 5 for the win.  The defense had some miscues but also turned in some very good plays.  Elyse Turton was solid at third.  Sam Buschur made a pirouette catch in right while Katelyn, Logan Jessee and Emily Stewart turned a 1-3-2 double play.  Logan, Emily and Ashley Elber had 2 hits apiece.  Ali Jesberger, Betsy Keener, Sam and Elyse each had 1 hit.  The Chargers are at Port Clinton on Friday and Monroeville on Saturday.

JV Softball:
The JV softball team shut-out Huron yesterday for a 13-0 win.  Danielle Wilhelm was the winning pitcher giving up only 1 hit and striking out 4.  Leading hitters were Maddi Gornek with 2 singles and a double while Danielle Wilhelm and Ali Soviak had 3 singles each.  Caitlyn Roberts also contributed with a single and a double and Sam Seiling had 2 doubles.  The team is now 3-2 overall, 1-0 in the SBC.

Varsity Baseball:
The varsity baseball team lost to Huron 5-4.  Mat Koelsch pitched well, giving up just 5 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings.  Koelsch struck out 8 and gave up just two earned runs.  Ryan Reber pitched one perfect inning of relief.  Kevin Knight led the offense with 2 doubles, Taylor Emody had a single and 3 RBI's, and Ryan Neuberger added a single.  The team plays at Wellington today.

JV Baseball:
The Edison JV baseball team traveled to Huron last night and defeated the Tigers 18 to 7.  The Chargers pounded out 20 hits, lead by Evan Hagelberger with two doubles and two singles.  Brandon Gurnak and Mike Kumpula each had three hits.  Nate Wilhelm and Bob Deehr added two hits each.  Sam Deehr pitched five innings and picked up the win.  The Chargers play at Clyde tonight.

Girl's Track:
The girls’ track team defeated the Huron Tigers last night 83 to 45.  Mandi Richards threw her best in shot to take 1st with a 30’ 3” throw.  She also had a PR in the disc with a throw of 95’11” which also placed 1st.  Cami Shine took first in the long jump with a leap of 15’5 1/2”.  Sarah Rospert took 1st in the mile; Casey Flannery won the 400 with her best time of 63.1.  Ginny Field placed 1st in the 300 hurdles. Nicole Swartz won the 200 with a time of 28.12.  The 4X 400 took first with the team of Casey Flannery, Nicole Swartz, Zoe Gastier, and Carman Tinnel.  The 4x100 also placed 1st with the team of Sophia Johnson, Chelsea Frankboner, Nicole Swartz, and Stephanie Campana.  The team of Sophia Johnson, Casey Flannery, Nicole Swartz, and Stephanie Campana placed 1st in the 4x200 with their best time of 1:51.9.  Great Job ladies.

Boy's Track:
The boys track team lost to Huron last night 62-57.  Jon Wolshuck PR’d in the discus throwing 141 feet.  Tim Majoy won the 1600 run.  The 4x800 team also won.  Good job guys!

Boy's Tennis:
The boys’ tennis team continues to play hard but suffered a loss to Clyde Tuesday evening in the park.  Winning for the Chargers was senior Tyler Stewart 6-0, 6-0.  Tyler now stands at 4-1 on the season.  For the JV team, Jamie Wilson got the win with an 8-4 victory at singles.  Both teams are back in action tonight against Huron in the park!

Varsity Baseball:

The varsity baseball team picked up its first SBC win of the season with an exciting 10-8 comeback victory against Clyde.  Down 5-0, the team rallied to tie the game with 5 runs in the 4th inning.  The game was tied again at 6 before Clyde took an 8-6 lead heading into the bottom of the 7th inning.  With two outs and bases loaded, Taylor Emody hit a walk off grand slam home run to give the Chargers the victory.  Emody had 2 hits and 6 RBI's, Kevin Knight hit a double, and Mat Koelsch and Ryan Neuberger had 1 RBI each.  Cory Schmidt picks up the win in relief of Tyler Koch.  The team plays Huron at home on Wednesday.

Varsity Softball:
The varsity softball team lost its’ SBC opener 10-1 to Clyde.  The game was a lot closer than the score indicates.  The Chargers had 8 hits and worked 3 walks off Clyde pitching.  Timely hitting would have led to some run-scoring rallies and put some pressure on Clyde.  Unfortunately, some defensive miscues by the Chargers and timely hitting by Clyde allowed the visitors to score 6 of their runs in the last 2 innings.  The girls look to turn things around on Wednesday vs. Huron.

Girl's Track:
The girls track team competed in their 1st invitational on Saturday and placed 4th out of 11 teams at the Shelby Invitational.  Top placers included Sarah Rospert who took 1st in the 2 mile with a time of 12:07, and Alyssa Robinson and Casey Flannery placed 4th and 5th in the 400. The 4x100 relay took 2nd with the team of Sophia Johnson, Chelsea Frankboner, Nicole Swartz, and Stephanie Campana.  The 4x200 placed 1st overall with the team of Alyssa Robinson, Sophia Johnson, Nicole Swartz, and Casey Flannery.  The 4x400 ended the day with 1st place finish with the team of Casey Flannery, Nicole Swartz, Carmen Tinnel, and Alyssa Robinson.  The teams are in action on Tuesday at Home when we host the Huron Tigers.

Boy's Track:
The boys track finished 4th in an 11 team field Saturday at Shelby.  The 4x800 team of Tim Majoy, Brandon Tomson, Steve Salmons and Wes Strayer finished 1st with a PR of 8:41.  Wes Strayer also PR’d in the 800, finishing 2nd in 2:05.  Brady Gelvin was 3rd in the long jump and the 200.  Jon Wolshuck PR’d in the discus, finishing 4th with a 134’10” throw.  Seth Battle was 3rd in the 400 and the 4x400 team of Seth Battle, Noah Hill, Brad Meinert and Wes Strayer also finished 3rd.  Congratulations guys on a great day!

Boy's Tennis:
The varsity tennis team lost to Sandusky on Wednesday 0-5.  Winning for the JV tennis team were the doubles teams of Sam Bores/Adam Osterling and Jeremy Moss/Kyle McDonald.  The tennis team is home tonight against Lake Ridge.

Varsity Baseball:
The varsity baseball team fell to undefeated New London 11-7.  The team had a 7-3 lead heading into the 5th inning but could not hold on.  Tyler Koch led the offense by going 3 for 4 with a double and a home run.  Mike Laughlin had 2 hits, including his first career home run, and Mat Koelsch hit a 3 run home run in the first inning for his first home run of the season.  The team plays at home on Friday against Western Reserve.

Varsity Softball:
The Charger Softball team battled back from an early 4 run deficit to take the lead by one with a 3 run 7th inning.  Unfortunately, New London still had some slugs left in this slugfest, and scored 2 in the bottom of the inning to win 9-8.  Katelyn Fischer, Emily Stewart, Logan Jessee, Betsy Keener and Austin Cech each had 2 hits.  Ashley Elber, Elyse Turton, and Sam Buscher each had 1 hit.   Sam’s two out two run single in the 7th put the Chargers in the lead.  The girls next play at Willard on Saturday.

JV Softball:
The JV softball team came from behind in the bottom of the 7th to beat New London 3-2.  Danielle Wilhelm picked up her first win of the year giving up only two hits and striking out 12. Caitlyn Roberts got the game winning hit in the bottom of the 7th with a two run single.  Maddi Gornek and Lindsey Fox both had a double.  The team record is now 2-2.

Girl's Track:
The girls’ track team brought home another win as they defeated Fremont Ross 70 to 58.  Mandi Richards won the disc. Cami Shine won the long jump, and Mariah Wolfe won the high jump.  On the track Abbi Plunket took 1st in the mile, Sarah Ropsert  won the 2 mile, and Cassandra Grant finished 1st in the 800.  Alyssa Robinson placed 1st in the 400, and Sophia Johnson won the 200.  The 4x100 relay placed 1st with the team of Sophia Johnson, Chelsea Frankboner, Nicole Swartz, and Stephanie Campana.  The 4x400 relay also placed 1st with the team of Alyssa Robinson, Carmen Tinnel, Casey Flannery, and Nicole Swartz.  Great Job Ladies.

Boy's Tennis:
The boys’ tennis team lost to Amherst 1-4 on Tuesday evening.  Winning for the Chargers was Tyler Stewart at #1 singles 6-0, 6-2.  The team overall continues to improve match after match and faces Sandusky High tonight at home.  Play begins at 4:00 so come join the action!  The JV team went 2-2 last night against Amherst.  Winning for the Chargers were the doubles teams of Cody Noon/Andrew Sapp and Sam Bores/Adam Osterling.  The JV team is seeing lots of action and also continues play tonight against the Bluestreaks.

JV Softball:
The JV softball team picked up its first win of the season beating Buckeye Central 15-11.  Megan Thompson was the winning pitcher giving up 1 hit, 8 walks and striking out 2.  Leading hitters were Maddi Gornek with 2 singles and a double, and Caitlyn Roberts with 2 singles.  Ali Soviak, Sam Seiling, and Rachael Cummings each had one hit.  The team record is now 1-2.

Varsity Baseball:
The varsity baseball team evened their record at 1-1 by beating Bellevue 6-4 last night.  Kevin Knight led the offensive attack with a double, 2 hits and 3 RBIs.  Tyler Koch had a double and 2 hits while Mat Koelsch, Taylor Emody and Ryan Neuberger added 1 hit each.  Tyler Koch and Cory Schmidt pitched well in the game with Koch getting the win and Schmidt picking up the save.  The varsity boys play at New London on Wednesday.

JV Baseball:
The Chargers JV baseball team lost to Bellevue 12-1 last night.  Bobby Stone led the Chargers at the plate with 2 hits.

Varsity Softball:
The varsity softball team lost to Bellevue last night 6-0.  Katelyn Fischer pitched for the Chargers.  She walked 4 and gave up 5 hits.  Two costly errors in the third inning allowed three unearned runs to score.  Katelyn also had one of the Chargers 3 hits.  Ashley Elber and Austin Cech had the other 2.  The next varsity softball game is at New London on Wednesday.

JV Softball:
The JV softball team lost a close game to Bellevue last night 12-8.  Danielle Wilhelm was the losing pitcher giving up 12 hits, 8 walks and striking out 6.  Leading hitters were Ali Soviak with a single and a triple and Amanda Wroblewski with 2 singles.  Danielle Wilhelm, Lindsey Fox and Maddi Gornek each had 1 hit.  The JVs are now 0-2.  They play today at home vs. Buckeye Central at 4:30.

Girl's Track:
The Girls’ track team opened their 2008 season on top as they defeated the two conference favorites—Perkins and Oak Harbor. The chargers pulled ahead of the Pirates in the last event ending the meet with a score of 58 to 57.  Top placers were Stephanie Campana who took 1st in the 100.  Abbi Plunkett placed 1st in the mile.  Alyssa Robinson and Casey Flannery placed 1st and 2nd in the 400, and also took 1st and 3rd in the 200.  Cassandra Grant finished 2nd in the 800, and Sarah Rospert & Remi Hoffman took 1st and 2nd in the 2 mile.  The girls took 1st in 3 relays. The 4x100 placed first with the team of Sophia Johnson, Chelsea Frankboner, Nicole Swartz, & Stephanie Campana.  The 4x200 took 1st with the team of Alyssa Robinson, Casey Flannery, Nicole Swartz, and Stephanie Campana.  The 4x400 ended the meet with a 1st from the team of Casey Flannery, Nicole Swartz, Carman Tinnel, and Alyssa Robinson.  Great Job ladies!

Boy's Track:
The boys track team beat Oak Harbor but lost to Perkins in a tri-meet last night.  Finishing 1st for the Chargers were:  Jim Beres in the 100 and 200; Wes Strayer in the 800; the 4x100 relay team of Alias Freeman, Jim Beres, Dylan Howard, and Brady Gelvin.  Finishing 2nd for the Chargers were:  Jon Wolshuck in the discus; Brady Gelvin in the long jump and the 100; Steve Salmons in the 1600; Seth Battle in the 400 and Tim Majoy in the 3200; and the 4x400 relay of Seth Battle, Brad Meinert, Noah Hill, and Wes Strayer.  Way to go guys!!

Boy's Tennis:

The boys’ tennis team lost to Fremont St. Joe on Wednesday 2-3.  Winning for the Chargers were singles players Tyler Stewart and Nate Seamans only needing two sets a piece for the victory.  For the JV team the doubles team of Cody Noon and Andrew Sapp got the win with a 6-2 victory and at singles play Dan Plumb took his opponent 6-2 as well.

Varsity Softball:
The Charger softball team lost to Fremont Ross 4-1.  Katelyn Fischer pitched well, giving up 1 earned run.  She was backed by solid defense for most of the game.  Emily Stewart went 2 for 3.

JV Softball:
The JV softball team lost to Fremont Ross last night 11-1.  Danielle Wilhelm was the losing pitcher giving up 5 hits, 6 walks and striking out 8.  Caitlyn Roberts and Amanda Wroblewski had the only two hits of the night. 

Varsity Baseball:
The varsity baseball team lost a close 8-6 game to Fremont Ross.  The team held leads of 4-1 and 6-4, but could not close out the game in the 7th inning.  Stefan Taylor led the offense with 3 hits.  Tyler Koch hit a 2 run double in the bottom of the 6th inning and 3 RBI’s for the game.  Evan Hagelberger had a 2 run single in the 4th inning.  Koch, Ryan Reber and Mat Koelsch combined to give up just 2 earned runs on the mound.  The varsity team is back in action on Friday at home against Western Reserve.

Boy's Tennis:

The boys’ tennis team lost to Bellevue last night 1-4.  Winning for the Chargers at #1 singles was senior, Tyler Stewart.  The JV team won their matches in doubles play 3-0.  The winning JV teams were made up of Logan Francisco-Sam Bores; Kyle McDonald-Adam Osterling and Cody Noon/Andrew Sapp.  The Chargers are home today against Fremont St. Joe.
