CURRICULUM - 2nd GRADE
Social Studies
The focus
of the second year program is people and their relationships with
groups. Students examine various groups with emphasis on American
heritage, democratic process, citizenship, decision-making,
resources, and word interactions.
Language Arts
The goal
of the second grade language arts program is to help all students
develop skills that will lead to successful reading and
comprehension at grade level, to develop legible penmanship, and to
use reading, writing and speaking as effective communication tools.
Mathematics
The focus
of the math skills taught is based on the six academic content
standards adopted by the State Board of Education.

Science/Health
The second
year science program allows students to think creatively and explore
freely using hands-on science methods. Major units include: plants,
matter, energy, animals, geology, solar system, and ecology. In
Health, students will develop values, build critical thinking skills
and promote behaviors that relate to health goals.
