CURRICULUM - KINDERGARTEN
Reading
The goal for reading readiness is to learn the upper and
lower case letters of the alphabet and the sounds they make,
as well as print them using proper size, formation, and
lines. The reading of color and K-1 vocabulary will be
emphasized. By the end of the kindergarten year, the
children will be able to print their first and last name.
Other reading readiness activities are provided by our
literature-based program and early reading will take place
as your child develops literacy skills.
Mathematics
The mathematics program gives students opportunities to
experience basic number concepts through informal group
activities and planned experiences which occur in games and
discovery as students work with materials. This includes
rote counting, recognizing and understanding the meaning of
the numerals from zero to twenty, learning about
comparisons, the calendar, sets, one-to-one correspondences,
geometric shapes, patterning, graphing, and problem solving
activities.
The mathematical area is broken down into these areas based
on the eight strands:
1. Patterns and Functions
2. Problem Solving
3. Numeration
4. Geometry
5. Algebra
6. Measurement
7. Estimation and Mental Math
8. Data Analysis and Probability
Social Studies
The topics covered are as follows:
American Heritage People in Societies World Interaction
Democratic Processes Citizenship
Science/Health
The kindergarten science program provides children a time to
explore such topics as the use of water, weather conditions,
and various forms of living things using many hands-one
activities. The children learn about their bodies and ways
to keep them healthy.
