7th Grade Health
This course
involves a number of health issues relevant to the
developing adolescent. We begin by examining the three
aspects of health which are physical health,
mental/emotional health, and social health. We examine how
all three are interdependent upon each other with topics
that include taking responsibility for your own health by
choosing healthy habits, reducing risks, avoiding hazards,
making responsible decisions, and setting goals. We also
take a look at how nutrition and fitness benefit health.
Understanding how the body systems function allows students
to comprehend more clearly how unhealthy choices impact
their body and overall health. Protecting health by
avoiding tobacco, alcohol, and drugs is an important unit
and brings all previous information into perspective.
This course meets
for one semester or half of the school year. Letter grades
are earned by completing notes, quizzes, assignments both
inside and outside the classroom, projects, and tests.
8th Grade Health
This course builds upon the concepts learned in grade 7 and
expands them for the 8th grader.
