6th Grade
During the
student's sixth grade year in Science, he/she will study a
general science curriculum including Life Science, Physical
Science, and Earth Science. Included in Life Science is a
study of living things beginning with basic functions of an
organism and cellular organization. The Physical Science
course of study includes the study of the nature of matter
and the nature of energy. In Earth Science, we will discover
how to identify rocks and the minerals they are made of.
Scientific inquiry, understanding technology and scientific
ways of knowing are topics the students will cover.
7th Grade
In seventh grade science, the students will
be studying a variety of topics. The first semester is
primarily built upon Chemistry. This will include topics on
matter, atoms, elements, compounds, and chemical compounds,
and chemical equations. The second semester will comprise
of Biology and Earth Science. They will be studying
vertebrate animals, fugues, and non seed plants form the
biological spectrum. Topics from Earth Science will include
geologic time scales, rocks and minerals, and the rock
cycle.
8th Grade
Eighth grade science covers a variety of
topics including: flowering plants, insects, genetics,
light, motion and space. Students will collect and unknown
gas and then perform tests on the gas to identify what kind
it is. Current topics such as global warming and the ozone
hole are also studied. In the fall, students will collect
insects and then learn about their structures using
microscopes. Students are instructed with many hands-on
activities and problem solving situations.
