Any student interested in competing with the
Edison Speech & Debate team is encouraged to attend an
organizational meeting with Mr. Amstutz on Wed., August 27th
at 3:20 PM in the auditorium. There are openings in
humorous & dramatic acting, duo interpretation, debate and
student congress. Come and see what this organization is
all about this Wednesday!

The following students have been elected officers
for the Speech and Debate team for 2008-09: President –
Emily Leber; Vice President – Jon Wolshuck; Secretary –
Sarah Dunnavant; Treasurer – Jesse Barron; Historian – Maddi
Gornek; and Debate Captain – Bryan Nemire. Congratulations!
3-3-08
Congratulations to the
Edison Speech and Debate team which competed this weekend at
the State Tournament with 900 other students from across the
State at Medina High School. Katie Ferman advanced to the
semi-final round in Student Congress and Emily Leber
advanced to the finals in Student Congress placing 9th
overall in the State of Ohio. Congratulations to the team
for a fantastic year! Mr. Amstutz will be at Edison on
Tuesday to sign students up for the final student congress
contest of the year, the NFL qualifier. A reminder also
that the Speech and Debate banquet is March 18th – get your
plaques into Mr. Amstutz ASAP!

Congratulations to
the Edison Speech and Debate team which competed with over
450 students from 36 schools at the State Qualifying
tournament this weekend. Congratulations to the Edison
policy debate team of Katie Wallrabenstein and Jon Wolshuck,
the Duo Interp team of Sarah Dunnavant, Jesse Barron and
Samantha Barclay who qualified in Humorous Interpretation.
The team next travels to the National Qualifiers on February
15th and 16th at Berea High School. Mr. Amstutz will meet
with students at 3:45 today in the response lounge that plan
to compete.

Congratulations to
the Edison debate team which competed with 30 teams at the
Berea Grindstone Debate tournament on Saturday. The policy
debate team of Katie Wallrabenstein and Jon Wolshuck placed
1st with a perfect win record. Finishing 5th overall was
the Edison debate team of Bryan Nemire and Brian Spence.
Placing 3rd in Duo Interpretation was the team of Sarah
Dunnavant and Jesse Barron. Placing 7th in Prose/Poetry was
Ben Schlotterer and placing 7th in Humor was Samantha
Barclay. The team finishes up its regular season this
Saturday at the Rocky River Tournament.

Congratulations to the Edison High School
Speech and Debate team which was featured in the Cleveland
Plain Dealer for their success at the Hathaway Brown High
School Tournament on Saturday. Instead of receiving trophies
at this tournament the Edison winners decided to donate
their winnings to purchase a well for a village in Africa to
point out the need for clean water in sub-Saharan Africa.
Winners at the tournament included 2nd placers Sarah
Dunnavant and Jesse Barron in Duo Interpretation; Katie
Wallrabenstein and Jon Wolshuck, 4th in policy debate;
Samantha Barclay and Lisa Mongiardo, 6th in Duo
Interpretation. The team travels to Berea High School this
Saturday. Registration deadline for the Berea Tournament is
today, so if you plan to compete and have not already
registered with Mr. Amstutz, you must do it today in the
response lounge from 3:30-5:15.

Congratulations to
the Edison Speech and Debate team which competed at the
Barberton tournament on Saturday. Winning 1st place honors
in policy debate was the Edison team of Katie Wallrabenstein
and Jon Wolshuck. Placing 4th in policy debate was the team
of Katie Ferman and Bryan Nemire. Katie Wallrabenstein was
named Best Speaker in the policy debate division and Jon
Wolshuck was named 3rd. Katie Ferman received the 5th place
honors for speaking. Also placing for Edison was the Duo
Interpretation team of Sarah Dunnavant and Jesse Barron
which placed 5th overall. Any student planning to compete
at this weekend’s tournament at Hathaway Brown must register
with Mr. Amstutz today after school in the response lounge.
He will arrive to train new Public Forum debaters at 3:30
pm.

Congratulations to the Edison
debate team of Kate Ferman and Bryan Nemire which placed 3rd
last weekend at the Midpark High School Debate Tournament.
Also placing 3rd was the Duo Acting team of Emily Leber and
Cody Noon.

The speech and debate team traveled to the Olmsted
Falls Forensic Tournament on Saturday to compete with over
500 students from across the State of Ohio. The following
students placed for Edison. Placing 4th in Policy Debate was
the team of Katie Ferman and Bryan Nemire; placing 5th in
policy debate was the team of Ben Busdicker and Brian
Spence; placing 5th in Duo Interpretation was the team of
Samantha Barclay and Lisa Mongiardo. The team travels to
Midpark on December 15. Mr. Amstutz will meet with
individual events competitors on Tuesday and with policy
debaters on Thursday.

Congratulations to
Samantha Barclay and Lisa Mongiardo who placed 4th in Duo
Interpretation at the Lincoln West Speech and Debate
tournament on Saturday. Placing 6th in policy debate was
the team of Kate Ferman and Bryan Nemire.

Congratulations to the
Edison Speech and Debate team which brought home the 6th
place Team Sweepstakes trophy from this weekend’s home
tournament. Winning trophies for Edison were the
following: 1st place in Policy Debate – Katie
Wallrabenstein and Jon Wolshuck with a perfect undefeated
record; 2nd place to Sarah Dunnavant and Jesse Barron in Duo
Interpretation; 3rd place to Bryan Nemire in Public Forum
Debate; 4th place in the Duo Interpretation category –
Samantha Barclay and Lisa Mongiardo; 5th place in prose
poetry, Samantha Seiling; 5th place in Policy Debate, Katie
Ferman and Hannah Maynard; 6th place in Prose/Poetry, Maddi
Gornek and 6th place in 2 person policy debate Ben Busdicker
and Brian Spence. Mr. Amstutz will meet with the team on
Wednesday this week. Sign ups for the Lincoln West
Tournament on November 17th must be complete by Friday of
this week. This sign up list will be posted outside the
auditorium.

Congratulations
to the Edison Speech and Debate team which placed 5th
overall at the first 2007-08 OHSSL varsity season tournament
held at Vermilion this Saturday. The debate team of Jon
Wolshuck and Katie Ferman placed 2nd while the team of Ben
Busdicker and Brian Spence placed 5th and the team of
Jessika Otto and Hannah Maynard placed 6th. Placing first
in Duo Interpretation was the team of Sarah Dunnavant and
Jesse Barron, placing second was the duo team of Samantha
Barclay and Lisa Mongiardo. Placing 2nd in Dramatic
Interpretation was Emily Leber and placing 7th in
Prose/Poetry was Samantha Seiling. Edison hosts its
tournament this Saturday. Mr. Amstutz will meet with
Individual Events contestants on Tuesday, Public Forum teams
on Wednesday and Policy debate teams on Thursday. Officers
meet with Mr. Amstutz after school Friday to set up for the
tournament.
